This is something that I've been wondering if I should say or not, but I'm now just going to go out with it and be done. The sad truth is that despite me being a big fan of the Ninja Turtles for the vast majority of my life, I've never had a chance to view the official comics. Sad Unlike a lot of people growing up, I just never got into comics, and the way I became fond of the series was due to the animated series, which had a different feel. In a way, who knows how I would have felt about TMNT had I been exposed to the more intense version at a young age, but part of me now feels a bit left out at times when it comes to the comics, both the real deal and even fan-made work.

I guess that in a way, I'm curious to know what differences were made and what I should be aware of. Perhaps I can use this knowledge to gain a better understanding and appreciation for the series... I can't believe I just said that... This may also come in handy when look at other's work. So, to those that have stopped laughing by the time you get to this point in the topic, a little info is appreciated.

Now with this out the way, I feel a bit better... Laughing

Hey, it's no big. The same goes for me. Up until last year I never even knew there was a comic. I grew up with the original 80s cartoon. We were in elementary school. We don't know any better at that age. Plus the comics were much darker then, and my parents didn't think much of comics. Not to mention there wasn't exactly a comic store near where I lived. Odds are that the majority of TMNT fans between the ages of 15-24 either grew up more with the 80s cartoon or the 2003 cartoon. And you probably won't run into as many people who grew up with the comic on such forums such as this one.

I too would really like to learn more about the comics. I have a few of the originals that I bought at the fleamarket and they're cool, but I would really dig a compilation of the series. More of a chance I'd really read it.

No wayz (not sure why I'm adding the "z" there, but I'm bored)! When I was making this, one of the things that crossed my mind was, "I'm pretty sure Ahro will fill me in. That is... if she doesn't scold me first!" Just kidding about that last part. XD Anyways, I was kinda hoping you would have what I was looking for. At the same time, you make a VERY valid point, and the situations we were both in at that age are very similar. I read a great deal of books back then, but comics never crossed the mind of myself or my mom. On top of that, comic stores aren't exactly booming around my parts, either. Razz

Once again, it's good to know someone that can relate to what I'm saying.

I only grew up on the 80's cartoon, and it's what formed my love of the turtles ^^ but the comics are really different than that cartoon. what you guys wanna know about them?

I didn't want to know to much. I just really wanted to get a have as good of an understanding of the atmosphere as I could get. Basically, just try to figure out how dark it is and things like that. That's all. I've also known for years that there was a comic, but as I said, I've never had a chance to see one for myself.

lol ok. Well first of all, the comics were originally geared towards adults, NOT children. The turtles all wore a RED mask, it was changed in the cartoon so the kids could tell them apart. They were actually...well in my opinion....kind of ugly in the originals, much shorter, only 13 not 15...few changes like that. The plots and stories were almost identical to the 2003 version of the show NOT the 1987 ones. especially the first few episodes with the mousers and baxter stockman, all the same story in the comics. also the beginning of the second season with the Triceritons were VERY similar to the comics. If you would like, I can give you the link to the site where you can read the first few issues. Their really good, but there's swearing and actual blood because it's an adult comic. Just forewarning you Wink

lol sure, for anyone who wants to have a little looksee.

Go here>> http://www.ninjaturtles.com/

Click: Comic Books on the left side
Scroll down to the very bottom and it will show you a picture of the first 7 issues as well as the first of each turtle.
Click on any you want to read, if you do the first issue it will let you click through all the following ones from the bottom. If you've seen the 2003 cartoon you'll notice the uncanny similarities...

Enjoy!!
